Wii Party U Review
Monday Oct 28, 2013
Monday Oct 28, 2013
From Wii Play to Wii Party, we now have the latest addition called Wii Party U. Like the previous titles, this is fun for all the family. Straight from the get go, you have a number of options to choose from. TV Party - where you and the family or your friends can compete in board games or mini games. Then you have House Party - where you turn the room into a video game playground or the simplistic but addictive Game-Pad Party - where you challenge another player with the game pad.
If you're stuck, you can hit the suggestions box and your host will find the perfect game for you if you are home alone or if you are playing up to four players. You need to have a Wiimote in order to play this game. You don't have a Wiimote. Fear not as it's included with the game! A welcome bonus for all of us who have been holding off buying a remote or need another one.
The host picked highway rollers for me which Is a basic board game and has tons of mini games. You then grab your wiimote and are on your way. I had to build a robot faster than the 3 computer controlled characters....I then had a tie breaker situation. I came third overall so time to get on with the game. There are 301 spaces to reach the goal... Fear not as you have multiple dice to throw. I actually rolled third but landed on a square that allowed me to throw another 5 dice. Then onto the next mini game where I had to see a passing car and match it up with the ones shown. It's trickier than it sounds. Rolled again and I'm 237 squares away, overall thus far I'm enjoying the game and await the next mini game which another player got. They were in a tank and had to beat us all. The tank one sadly :( then Joseph gets another 1 vs. 3 mini game where he controls the boxing gloves in order to knock us off the stage. Joseph excelled at this! The next mini game is remembering what the chef put in the pot. There are 10 ingredients and I thought...I'm never going remember this but each player has to pick an ingredient. I win and roll a mighty 48. Do I win the game....well I need to get back to playing it! This is just a short synopsis of what I experienced in my very first of no doubt many 'Party sessions!'
The entertainment value alone in this game is what will bring you back to it. It's very addictive and the amount of options available is incredible. I just think that this will be a game to keep the whole family happy from ages young to old. As I said earlier, the addition of the extra Wiimote is a tremendous addition. If you're a fan of the previous Wii Party or Wii Play games or even the terrific Mario Party series, this is a worthwhile addition to your collection. It is available to download via the Wii U shop although, remember you won't get the Wiimote. Check your local retailer or even go to Nintendo's official online store where it's at a bargain price http://store.nintendo.co.uk/games-wii-u/wii-party-u-with-wii-remote-plus-black-limited/10848321.html (This is only for those in the UK.)
So in summary, if you have friends round regularly and love playing video games or even board games, this is the game for you. Also it'll keep your granny occupied on Christmas Day. This is a welcome addition to the Wii U library of games.
Retroshock Rating: 8 out of 10.
